The next time you are planning a trip to northwestern Minnesota, you should consider staying at one of the many resorts on or near the White Earth Reservation! Resort lodging gives the stressed-out traveler a place to relax and unwind. For those who love to swim, fish, hike, boat, sit-a-round a campfire, or simply want to “get away from it all” there are many resorts to choose from. Most of them offer something for both local residents and tourists alike, offering a wide assortment of activities that keep patrons coming back year after year. Here is a look at our favorite top four!
- Valhalla Resort on Island Lake is perfect for those looking for a smaller resort and want to be right on the lakeshore. Eight cabins are well spaced along a half mile of lake shore, providing privacy, peace, and quiet. There is a choice of completely modern carpeted or semi-modern natural log cabins. All cabins are directly on the lake with screened porches and private docks. No. 8 cabin is on an Island with road access. All cabins are furnished for light housekeeping, everything provided except towels.
A safe, sandy beach with clear, clean water. No weeds or drop offs. Canoes, and two kayaks are all free for everyone’s use. The playground is equipped with small swings and slide, larger school swing set, teeter-totter and bars. Horseshoe court is close by. Enjoy the many trails for hiking, the wildflowers and especially Minnesota’s State Flower, the pink Lady slipper.
Island Lake is a spring fed lake with crystal clear waters; three miles long and 1 1/2 miles wide. It has many points, rock bars and islands with deep water between. It is one of the best lakes in the area for walleye catches, along with northern pike, small-mouth bass, large perch and bluegills. The beautiful autumn colors, the fine fall walleye fishing and hunting also make this an excellent time to vacation at Valhalla!
