I was lucky enough to grow up in Detroit Lakes. I can’t think of a better place to have been raised. There was a strong sense of community and family and there was always something to do. Summer Fun in Detroit Lakes
There are so many things to do living in Detroit Lakes during the summer. The lakes provide ample opportunities for summertime fun.
Whether you like to fish, waterski, Jetski, sail, paddleboard, or just lay around in the sun. If the lakes aren’t your thing there are many local golf courses, biking and hiking trails, tubing, amateur baseball, and various festivals. People travel from all over the world to attend the We fest Country Music Festival. The Detroit Lakes Water Carnival also brings in thousands of tourists every year.
Winter Fun in Detroit Lakes
Some people think we are crazy for living in such a cold place, but Minnesota winters aren’t so bad if you get out and have some fun. Once again the lakes provide ample opportunity for winter activities. You can try your luck ice fishing. There are many snowmobile trails. There is downhill skiing at Detroit Mountain. There are many cross country ski trail like those at Maplelag Resort. If you really want to test your durability there is a Polar Plunge every year, where they cut a hole in the ice and you jump in. There is always something to do while living in Detroit Lakes.
Shopping and Dinning in Detroit Lakes
While living in Detroit Lakes there are many place to shop or go out to eat. If shopping is your think there is the Washington Square Mall, a robust downtown full of local businesses, and even some of your bigger box stores. There is also the Shady Hollow Flea Market to hit up during the summer. If dinning is your thing, there is the destination restaurant Zorbaz. There are many fine dinning establishments, fast food, and patio bars.
